Tennis in the United States is played on three kinds of places: public park courts run by a city or county, member clubs and country clubs with their own pros and leagues, and commercial tennis centers that sell court time by the hour. Public courts are usually free and first come, first served, with a posted limit (often 60-90 minutes when others are waiting); busier cities run online reservation systems with a small fee and a permit for the season. Indoor courts are rented by the hour and booked days ahead in winter. Most facilities are hard courts; clay is common in the Southeast and at private clubs, and grass is rare. Lights extend play into the evening at many parks, sometimes with a coin or app-operated switch.

β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜… I absolutely love the Kimpton Cardinal Hotel. I’ve stayed here five times with my 50-lb dog, and it has become our go-to hotel whenever we want a little getaway. The hotel feels upscale and unique, and the rooms are beautiful. I especially LOVE the huge bathtub! The water pressure and flow are amazing. It takes less than five minutes to fill that giant tub, which is surprisingly rare even at nice hotels. The staff is always professional, friendly, and welcoming. Another huge plus is that the hotel is truly pet-friendly, with no extra pet fee. That makes traveling with our dog so much easier. The recreation room is also a lot of fun, and the bowling is FREE! The daily social hour from 5–6 PM is another favorite, with complimentary red and white wine plus snacks and food. It’s such a nice way to relax at the hotel before dinner. There are just a couple of small things I hope they improve: The TVs really need an upgrade. They don’t support modern smart TV features, so there’s no way to cast your own Netflix or YouTube. The TV also seems to have trouble connecting to the hotel folio system, so I couldn’t view my current room charges from the TV. Also, if you receive a late

Even on the surface, I immediately thought that this hotel was terrific. The architecture (apparently designed by the same person who created the Empire State Building) is stunning, with the interior feeling like a mix of southern charm and art deco touch. The staff was absolutely fantastic throughout our 2 day stay, the rooms were big and comfortable, and dining at The Katherine at the ground level was outstanding. The location is also very convenient, with lots of dining in the area (4th Street East and Trade Street were great for starters), and if you're visiting Wake Forest (maybe 10 minutes away) or other Winston-Salem or Durham-area schools, the drives are convenient. To add to the character of the place though was the benefit of exploring. I only managed downstairs, but in addition to finding a terrific gym, there are multiple lounges with couches and TVs with kitchy pictures and decorations throughout. But dig a little bit deeper, and you'll find a giant underground rec room with video games, 2 lanes of bowling, a little soccer pitch, and a slide if you want to skip the stairs. I only wish I'd had enough time to see what was towards the roof... Would absolutely visit her

Our father and son stay at the Kimpton Cardinal, on Father’s Day, in Winston-Salem was absolutely wonderful. The hotel itself is a beautiful art deco gemβ€”stylish, elegant, and full of character, while still feeling warm and welcoming. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt special. The highlight of our stay, however, was Ms. Letia Allen, the Front Office Manager. We had the pleasure of meeting her at check-in, and she immediately set the tone for the entire visit. She exuded genuine Southern hospitalityβ€”gracious, kind, professional, and effortlessly welcoming. It’s rare to encounter someone who makes you feel so instantly valued as a guest, but Ms. Allen did exactly that. Her warmth and attention made our stay feel personal in the very best way. The Kimpton Cardinal is a lovely hotel, but it’s people like Ms. Allen who make it truly memorable. We would happily stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Winston-Salem.
